Merry Christmas! 2010
Nolan only asked for 1 thing this Christmas - a Nintendo DS-I.... and Santa did NOT bring it. Luckily, Nolan is OK with it! Santa did leave a note & share that he has a DS already, which he rarely plays. So, play it & maybe next year, he'd bring the DS-I one.
But, let's not feel sorry for poor lil Nolan! Santa (that would be Dad) decided he had to upgrade his 4-wheeler, so he got that from Santa instead! Jillian got the Barbie Jeep to try and keep up!!
We headed to the Wingate's for Christmas brunch - THANKS for the invite. We had a nice relaxing time (for our 2nd meal)! Sat down for a traditional meal of Porterhouse steaks... aaahhh, life is good!
Thank you, Jesus, for this day & the blessings you have bestowed upon us!
Christmas Eve
We thought it'd be fun to head to Mom's favorite Chinese place for lunch, then head to church for Christmas Eve mass. The Children's Mass. It was our own little version of Christmas Story - just no turkey taken by the dogs! LOL!
Got to church 30 minutes early - PLENTY of time, right? NO!! At 30 minutes early, the church was completely full, with seats already filled in the Narthonex! Yikes! We luckily squeezed in somewhere; 5th row or so; Had visions of Jillian puking on everyone surrounding us, but were pleasantly surprised that she made it through.
2 1/2 hours after we got there, we were finally in the car heading home. A little too long, even for my patient kids who go to church 2x/week! Nolan was nearly in tears at the end - with LET's GO! Jillian was pale & getting paler, each moment.
Aah...Christmas bliss!!
Play Date @ Children's Museum
First day of Christmas break, we headed off the the Children's Museum. Of course, the kids avoided Santa - Darn... Jillian is learning from Nolan! So, no pics with the Jolly Ole Guy this year.
Ansley and Nolan were a handful. But, thanks to Ansley's adventurous spirit, Nolan participated in many things that he normally would have shy-ed away from.
Jillian and Ellie are perfectly matched friends - only 3 days apart in birth! Yah - a friend she will have in her Kindergarten class! And, they, cough cough were perfect angels!

Kindergarten Song Presentation
The two Kindergarten classes got together for multiple performance's of their singing abilities! Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer was adorable, when they all turned around, hid to put on a red clown nose, then returned to face the audience with their glowing red noses!
17 minutes & 3 songs later, they were done! They worked a long time to get to the performance & did a great job!
Nolan did not look a bit nervous! Which is surprising since the family (including Christian) were at the far back! (In the pic, Nolan is 2nd row - far right, in red sweater.
Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree
We headed to Jay's Tree Farm again this year.... for another ridiculously, overpriced conifer! But then of course, we AGAIN chose one that was cut & up front, and over 10 feet tall... instead of hoofing it into their tree patch.
Hmm... funny how those things always look so small outdoors and on the car, then you get home & realize that you need to either trim the top or the bottom, because we are TO THE ROOF and more!
The kids, by the way... really didn't care about the whole tree thing. It was more fun to play hide and seek between the tree's!! Giving mom a heart attack, when they wouldn't answer!
First Snow!
It's the first year that kids wanted to spend HOURS outside! Better them, then me!
I stayed indoors & purged the toy box without them knowing!!
Nolan managed to spend 3 hours outdoors. The last 30 minutes was spent being pulled around the Wingate's with Reece... all thanks to a 4-wheeler and a saucer!
Jillian was clueless, as she gave up after 1.5 to 2 hours & wanted to warm up in her comfy cozy bed! NAP TIME!
A Night in Bethlehem
The kids grabbed their passports & traveled to the town of Bethlehem, all in one evening! Our old church (St Thomas More) was putting on the evening of festivities for the kids. They traveled into the Bethlehem shops & got to experience activities within each shop.
In the bakery, they rolled dough & made cookies.
In the candy shop, they decorated their cookies. (Which were then promptly eatten!)
In the leather shop, they made leather bracelets.
In the carpentry shop, they sanded stars & constructed a manger scene.
In the metal shop, the made boula (sp?) medallions.
And, finally, they sat for a reading of A Night in Bethlehem!
Santa was down the hall... Kids never noticed him on the way in, because the line was long. As we left, noone was with him... And, the Canfield kids wouldn't step through the door to see him. Go figure!
Thanks to the Barkley's for inviting us to this evening adventure!

Camp - Even in November
Well - it will be our last visit to camp for the year/winter season. After hunting this week, Barry and Linda will close it up & winterize it. Then, they will head off to Aruba in January!
We took advantage of our last opportunity though, with two nights in the woods! As always, the kids loved it! It snowed (barely) one day, which prompted the re-dressing of winter gear, so they could have a snowball fight. It melted after about 10 snow balls were thrown.
Other then that, we were indoors, eating and drinking too much - as always! We huddled together to watch the losing Michigan Wolverines & wallow in the pity of such a horrible game vs the Buckeyes! The cousins played perfectly together & we could not have asked for better!!
Christmas Parade
With a high of 25 degree's & the wind whipping off the lake - it sure was one cold parade! Kids were bundled in layers: long underwear, snow pants, 2 hats, gloves. Momma's had the long underwear and head coverage, but not much more. But, the bigger kids froze with just coats and hats. Hmmm.... fashion doesn't = warmth!!
Funny thing was watching the kids attempt to move and pick-up the candy from the floats! Of course, little Miss got frustrated and just wanted to grunt, when other kids got the candy!
Santa ended the parade, which started Nolan singing holiday carols & he hasn't stopped yet!
Christmas with the Canfield's!
Yes - It's the Canfield year for Christmas ON Christmas, but our calendar will not allow. So, we made a hasty plan to all meet for Thanksgiving & celebrate Christmas early.
Linda got the house decorated... although she didn't need to.... However, the KIDS LOVED IT! (Especially since our house is far from Christmas ready!) Yes - the Halloween candy buckets are still out!!
It was great for the family to all be there & celebrate family, fun, Thanksgiving, and Christmas!
Kindergarten leads Mass!
Nolan was supposed to be a reader, but as the date approached, he told Ms. Weber that he could not do it. Anxiety took over.
So, we planned for the worst - Him running out! And, again were rewarded with the BEST!
While you could easily see the tension in Nolan's body - He did it!
He walked in with Father Vince, holding the School plate. He held the responsorial poster, with Michael, looking out at the congregation! AND, he walked the communion to Father Vince.
All big things he tackled. Next mass that Kindergarten leads - He promises to read.
The class did great & this was with HUGE readings for the day! Of course, we couldn't understand alot of what they said - with those cute tiny voices & teeth missing, so it distorts their words.... but it sure was delightful!!

Halloween - 2010
Halloween came early this year. For some odd reason, Mooresville decided to have trick-or-treat night the night prior to Halloween. Don't ask....who knows why. The odd thing is that all towns surrounding Mooresville are still Sunday. So, that means that we had our biggest turn out EVER! Being the 1st house in the subdivision, we were hit harder then others... and we managed to run out of the 200 freezer pops that we had purchased!
Nolan was a pirate; Jillian was Snow White. We filled Nolan's pumpkin... but Jillian fell short, as she gave up on the last road. We trick or treated with the Wingate's. Mom walked with wine, which unfortunately was never offered to be filled.
Fall Break - October 2010
For fall break, we took a great adventure to southern Indiana. Our first stop was the Blue Spring Caverns. The entire family got to take a boat ride through the cave. It was a 1st time in a cave for John, as well as the kids. (The staff was a little afraid that Jillian would tip the boat, but she did great!)
The cave was DARK, DARK, and more DARK. After we were well inside, they turned out the lights to show the darkness. Odd feeling to have your eyes attempting to adjust - and just can't! We also got to hear cave thunder, which is a huge bang made by the guide at the boat & listening to it travel completely down and out the cave!
After the cave tour, we headed to French Lick for an overnight stay at Big Splash Adventure. Nolan was FEARLESS, which is a first!! He was off & it took a near miracle for one of us to keep our eyes on him. He loved the slides, the lazy river, but most of all - he loved the tube slides, where he and someone went down in an inner tube. (Mom went down only once...which resulted in we think - a broken nose. As a short explanation, the slide turned us backwards, Nolan was trying to lean forward and adjust, when we hit the bottom, where his head then smashed right into Mom's face!) Pain has now lasted 3 days, but Dr said I could avoid the ER and wait for our Dr., since nothing out of alignment!
As for Jillian, she loved the swimming pool, the kids slide, but most of all, she loved the indoor jungle gym, which resembled Plainfield's. The indoor jungle gym had 2 slides, blue and yellow. You could not keep her out of them. She just kept pulling us back up to do it again!

Library Story Time
Go Colts!
Nolan did it! He got his 1st taste of a Colts game! YAH! He did great... until close to half time. He loved getting there early & buying snacks. He did great, asking tons of questions on football as the 1st quarter was under way....but then asked for dads I-phone to play games.
By the half time, he was ready to go. I am sure the drunk in the seat next to him had something to do with it too!
But, he never mentioned it & had a great experience with dad.
They came home to watch the end of the game on TV!
Field Trip - To the Bee Farm
Never mind that I could hear banjo's playing, as the school bus wandered through the back roads of Martinsville....
The kids were happy as bee's making honey, with their field trip to the Bee Farm.
With the tour, we saw an actual hive being worked. Did you know that all the boys were pushed out of the hive, as winter is now approaching? It's because they do nothing to help maintain the hive, so they were pushed out, so all the female worker bee's could start making enough honey for winter! Interesting little fact!
Did you also know that honey comes in over 300 natural flavors - no preservatives??
And that honey can last forever??
Of course, the kids knew many of these facts, due to Ms. Weber! The kids watched 3 PBS movies or bee specials, plus also worked on an anatomy chart for science.
It was one cool field trip! I am excited I was asked to be one of the 2 mom's attending!
(OH! And, did I mention how excited Nolan was to ride on his 1st school bus??!!)

Titanic!
As Nolan's reward for such a great week, he chose the Titanic exhibit at the Indiana State Museum. Here's the family pic on the Grand Staircase.
Each adult received tickets from actual passengers & we needed to check the list at the end, to see who survived and who perished. Mom - survived; Dad - didn't. Probably because I was in 1st class & he was in 3rd! LOL!
The excitement for Nolan and Jillian was the touching of the iceberg & leaving their hand imprint. While Nolan zoomed through the 1st two rooms (nervously), he finally did slow down & want to know about many of the artifacts that were recovered off the ocean floor.
When he gets older, he said he wants to scuba dive down and help recover parts of the boat. Hmmm..... he just doesn't understand that humans can't survive that far below the surface!

MI vs IU - GO BLUE!
As Jillian said, we were all wearing our "Go Blue" wear for the day! Mom, Dad, and Ashley spent the day at IU with friends from Michigan, Janet & Gregg. It was raining, cold and quite miserable for the pre-game tailgate. We made it through & were blessed with the rain moving out about an hour before kick-off.
Michigan's defense stunk... and it was a stressful game to watch. However, with 1:07 to go in the game, they moved the ball 80 yards and scored to win, with less then :17 seconds on the clock.
Nolan and Jillian spent the day with Carson! It was the first really LONG babysitting gig for us and Carson and she did great! The kids adore her! (But before we left, the kids wanted Janet to read to them!! Too cute!)

Dzia Dzia visit
Dzia Dzia came in for Grandparents Day at Nolan's school... which I know I had posted updates on before. While mom neglected to snap any shots of the two school buddies, I did pick-up the camera for Little Miss.
Poor Dzia Dzia. Jillian would not leave him alone!! He had to sit in the same spot and eat pretend food... I think for hours! When he tried to move: "No Dzia Dzia. Sit."

Nolan - Another Update
When someone has a social anxiety disorder, so many things are terrifying to that child. It can be the simple act of opening the front door that shatters their world so much that they hide. This is the life we have lived for months (years). Never knowing what would be the trigger: a fun family outing to the Family Day at Guard, swimming lessons, a family gathering in St Louis, Alpena, or Grand Rapids, and the list goes on.
However, this week Nolan braved many of his obstacles & overcame them. They may sound little to us, but for him, it has taken months of preparation and patience to achieve.
This week, he:
However, this week Nolan braved many of his obstacles & overcame them. They may sound little to us, but for him, it has taken months of preparation and patience to achieve.
This week, he:
- Started using the drop off line, instead of mom walking him into school;
- Started participating in gym class;
- Walked to the front of church for his blessing at communion;
- Said hello to Mrs. Popp, the principal;
- Answered Father Vince's questions (without eye contact & only 2 questions);
- Welcomed Dzia Dzia at our house for Grandparents Day, then played with him for 2 days;
- Welcomed family friends into our home for their 2 day stay;
- Spent a full & great day, with Carson - our neighborhood friend and sitter.
We celebrated Nolan's accomplishments & praised his bravery at tackling things that make him nervous, with a trip to the Indiana State Museum for the Titanic exhibition. YES - he chose it! From his Titanic game, he has found a love for the boat!

Explosions - Boys Adventure Club
The Mooresville Library has started a Boys Adventure Club, for 5 to 8 year olds. This 1st "meeting" was about explosions. The kids got to create a mini-reaction first indoors, with baking soda and lemon juice. They got to watch You-Tube video of Myth Buster's exploding things. And outdoors they got to see the Mentos and Diet Coke explosive reactions, as well as bagged gas (baking soda, vinegar) explosion. At first Nolan was "I want to go home.", but it quickly changed and he had a good time. Did he speak to anyone - NO! However, he did not hide behind me! So, it's a step in the right direction for him & the library!

SSFC Festival!
After a week of watching the tents and rides erect in school's parking lot, Nolan finally got his wish - Going to the festival!!! From the moment he woke, until the moment we got there, it was "When are we going to the festival?"
Jillian and he both rode the kiddie roller coast, fished (and won), went on the ferris wheel, played lots of other games (adult and kids size) and rode a multitude of rides! Mom did the worst on the ferris wheel, as her eyes were shut for half of the experience, with the palms sweating, and a death grip on Jillian, who was trying to lean over and see dad & "Do".
Little do the kids know that Mom and Dad went back at 9 PM, when they were fast asleep, so we would run the Big Wheel in the Monte Carlo tent. I think the Parish won big, with us at the wheel. Our aprons were filled quite full for SSFC.

Kindergarten pictures are back already!! We could not be more proud of Nolan! He's smiling; He's looking at the camera; And he's not looking at all stressed!
He has made a lot of great strides in a short amount of time.
Nolan is now participating in all classes, except one: gym. Because the 2 K classes are combined into one for gym class, there are added kids and noise. The therapist is thinking his lack of participation at this point continues to be emotional and anxiety related, but with sensory thrown in too. A little bit of a trifecta... Again, Ms. Weber and the gym teacher are OK with it. They know that when Nolan feels secure & less anxious, he will be more then willing to participate. It's evident from his start and now participation in other classes!
This week, Nolan will be the Star Student of the week. We have made a poster of family, his likes, his dislikes & what he wants to be when he grows up. We are darn excited for this opportunity, as Nolan normally shy's away from any attention - and here he's talking about being the Star Student & how he got to stand on a chair & have the other kids sing to him last week (for a celebration of filling his sticker chart!)
Way to go Nolan!! We are so proud that he is finding his way to overcome the Social Anxiety and Selective Mutism Disorders!

Family Day @ ANG 122nd Fighter Wing
Mom talked "what to wear" with the kids; Packed the camera; Planned the photo op. Then, got to Fort Wayne & found that I neglected to bring the camera battery!
Cell phone to the rescue for Family Day!
The 122nd ANG unit's last flight of the F-16 was celebrated in style, with numerous low level fly-by's. The "new" A-10 fly-by was done by Mike, Ashley's uncle! The unit has made the switch to the A-10's!
Our excitement was that we got to go out onto the flight line, in Dad's truck - while the remainder of the crowd had to hang back behind the fences! The kids loved the truck; Ashley loved getting out; Me - I was nervous John would get into trouble for all of us being there!
Our fun hotel stay was ruined, with the pool having too much chlorine & getting closed right before we checked in! Ugh! Oh well - swim time for the fam in the hotel tub! Always finding a way to make it work!!
Labor Day with the Alpena Fam
Have we worn out our welcome in Alpena yet? WOW! This year has blessed us with many opportunities to visit Alpena! And, Nolan is already asking if in October we can go back!!
After Linda's surprise party, we hung at camp for the entire weekend, leaving Monday to get back to Indy. While the temps were 58-ish high, with 40+ mph winds, we hunkered down inside. No fishing or camping!
We did get a family hike into the woods on Sunday to collect pine cones for Nolan's school. Uuummmm... school needed 600 total. We collected over 900 in maybe 30 minutes! Needless to say, we donated a bunch back into the woods!
Sunday, we also celebrated with some BIG fireworks, as the winds finally died right at dusk! Perfect timing!! And, a great ending to a wonderful weekend with the fam!!
Sorry that the Noom's couldn't make it! :-(
Linda's SURPRISE 60th Party! SURPRISE!
We pulled it off! After months of planning, Linda was completely surprised by her birthday party. She thought we were just celebrating Labor Day with a boiled dinner & friends. She kept inviting EVERYONE to join us, with poor Chantel running behind her & letting everyone know the real deal!
Linda even made her own birthday cake... when she guilted me with "I've made Pineapple Upside Down Cake before! I know how to do it!!" OK - all yours! You can make it!!
Too funny when she found out the truth of the event!

Butler - Christian moves to town!
SCHOOL!
Hello Sports Fans!
If you have come looking for Nolan's score on school start... You have come to the right place!
Nolan is currently batting 1000!
Day 1 and 2 left us with separation anxiety issues, as well as issues with the formal school uniform. But, with a little patience, we were over it quickly; And, with a reprieve (due to sensory issues) from the Principal, we got a change to his required formal uniform. By the end of day 2, Nolan had raised his hand to answer a question!
Day 3 - Ms. Weber shared that his hand was more often in the air, then not!
And Day 4 started with flawlessly!
In less then one week... we are already where I expected our month goal to be!! YAH NOLAN!
It's not all peaches and cream, though. While Nolan did have prep time, before school started, with Ms. Weber... he did not have that time with the special section teachers. Therefore, Nolan has failed to participate or speak in any of his special classes: Spanish, Music, or Gym. With SM, I envisioned this would happen, but Ms Weber is doing all possible for Nolan to feel secure & not experience anxiousness in these classes. I think that will be our new one month goal - His participation with these subjects!
Let's just keep praying!

The 1st day of Kindergarten has begun! It looked like our prep work paid off, as Nolan eagerly got dressed & put on his back pack. Nerves hit him, though, and he couldn't eat the home-made Banana Donuts that mom and dad had made.
Although the night before, he promised that he would not cry or try to run after us & prevent us from leaving.... he still had an anxiety attack. He ran out of his class & out the front door of school. After reminding him of the good things and how to calm his nerves with happy tunes, he went back to the room. While he refused to sit at his seat, Ms. Weber did get him to sit at the Lego table.
As Mom bent down to kiss him and tell him I'd be back at 3, he responded. "Why don't you make it later, Mom, since we got here late!"
OMG!! Too funny! From one extreme to the opposite.

Last day of summer: Hello Zoo!
What a great day! Temps started in the mid-70's, when we headed to the Zoo...a trip, to celebrate the last day of summer break! The weather was not the only good thing in our day. The kids were phenomenal!
Nolan wanted to explore every animal; Hear about every kind of snake (Yuck!); He smiled for pictures - The world was right!
Jillian clapped at the Dolphin Show; Stayed non-crabby, even without a nap; And wanted to walk, more then ride.
We missed the Butterflies only because we ran out of time. We needed to be back at school, as Ms. Weber gave Nolan 1-on-1 time, so he could explore the class and get used to her. It worked! At the end of the hour, Nolan asked Ms Weber is she'd leave the Lego design on the table that he'd made. He was talking with her about her collection of Matchbox cars. He had selected his job for the week, his table and seat, and even offered to help her in the morning with other jobs, as kids arrived! He wasn't the 100% Nolan that we see at home, but for only 1 hour with her - it was a miraculous transformation!

Mom met Ms. Weber!
Well... the Kindergarten parents meeting was last night & mom is feeling much better!
I already love Ms. Weber and know that she will bring out the best in Nolan. AND - best yet... she has had a student with Selective Mutism previously - so she already know tricks of the trade and can help draw him out!
Lets pray that all goes well!
We've started reading 1 book on starting Kindergarten each night before bed....and changed the bed time to an hour earlier... all in an attempt to not overwhelm him or make him anxious about the changes!

Trip to the Dentist
Jillian got to experience her 1st teeth cleaning this week! We tried to talk her into wearing her fishy dress that would match DrMcGowan's fish wall - but nope. She has a mind of her own.
She did GREAT in the chair. DrM found another tooth popping through, so that means only 1 is unaccounted for! And, she even kept in the fluoride treatment trays for 1 minute. Maybe it was that bubble gum flavor!
After we returned home....Nolan asked... is the Tooth Fairy real? My answer... If you believe in the tooth fairy, she will come and bring you gifts. If you don't believe... she will not come. After a little more reflection, he proclaimed he believed so that he could get stuff! Wow - not even 1 tooth loose & he's already doubting the existence!
(Oh...and look real close at the pic! Jillians eyes are crossed, because she was focusing so hard on what DrM was doing!! LOL!!)
Back to Alpena - August 2010
It's unprecedented on how many trips to Alpena we have made this year! So many in such short time. The first weekend of August brought the family again together for the wedding of a family friend: Martha (now) Stuart!
Jillian napped through the actual wedding, so that kept us from the church... but the kids were ready to go when the bubbles returned to Buzie and Dzia Dzia's house.
A pond and surrounding woods to the Sportsman's Club called Nolan's name. Nolan played with Al (neighbor) and Chloe (neighbors granddaughter), while Jillian played with K-K (Katie) and B-B (Hanna). Overall, they did great for their 1st wedding!
John missed out on the fun, as he had his monthly guard training. So - mom was stuck with the 10 hour drive back home....alone....with the crazy, cooped-up kiddos. AGH!

Girls Play Date
We were blessed for a beautiful day, so that chaos otherwise could reign!
Jillian and I invited "the girls" to our house for a swim play date! The girls would be Reece, Presley, and then Gabby and Adeline from Library Story Time.
Before anyone arrived, craziness was the theme of the AM!
I popped the pool, as I swung the lawn mower around the corner, then stood there 5 minutes or more yelling for John for the assist, while I held up the side of the pool to prevent water mass exodus! A not-so-quick fix and refill was needed.
Then, Meaghan called to request John's assistance, as her oven locked & would not release. He was not able to help & the cookie inside burnt to a crisp, before their eyes.
Good thing there were margarita's for the Mom's to de-stress with!!
After everyone arrived, everything was smooth sailing!! THANKS for coming over gals!
Nolan - we have a Diagnosis
As many of our friends know, Nolan had a horrible weekend in St Louis, that was a cherry on the sundae of problems this summer.
On Tuesday, we met with his therapist, who has explained that Nolan has a Social Anxiety Disorder, with mild aspects of Selective Mutism. (Basically, he is afraid of people - adults and kids; Has slow ramp up periods to feel secure; And appears extremely shy and withdrawn - until he reaches that level of trust.)
What we don't know is how this will play out, once school starts. We have the opportunity to use medication, but the parental units are in disagreement. So, we are attempting to use every last ditch effort to help him through this hurdle.
Stay tuned for more!

Bubble Lab @ Library
We returned from Grand Rapids, so that Jillian could participate in Bubble Lab at the library. Since Nolan wasn't able to join us, we invited Reece to take his place.
While it was not "as fun" as the Water Lab, the kids still loved exploring.
Once we got there, we recognized other friends there too, including Adeline!
Grand Rapids Family Weekend
OK - OK... So, I am once again 1 week+ behind at updating my blog. And, it was a whirlwind of 1 week, so please excuse the multiple updates on one day.
Last weekend, we had the family play weekend at Jeff and Susan's! While we had Friday PM in the pool; Saturday was a bummer - with rain or clouds most of the day....we were still in the pool though; Sunday AM - one last blast in the pool before heading home.
If the kids weren't in the pool, they were off playing with the cousins.... anywhere and everywhere. Jillian was fought over, like a stuffed animal... which didn't bother her til the end of the weekend...when she just needed space!
Nolan, as usual, needed his ramp-up time to feel comfortable and greet everyone... but, thanks to Aunt Chantel and her plans, he got there rather quickly, with 1 person visiting him in the play room at a time.
Finished the weekend, with Nolan leaving with Aunt Chantel and Uncle Jon. He went on his 1st all-alone, big-boy vacation. Of course, the honeymoon lasted all of 3 days, until he packed and was ready to go home. Unfortunately - he had to wait...when Mom could travel half way!

Insects! @ Pioneer Park
Nolan & John went exploring for Insects, with the direction of Pioneer Park. It was hotter then hot, so Nolan lost interest pretty quickly. But then, with Jillian on her bike - of course, his attention was distracted.
Group pictures of all kids on the exploration taken.... AND of course, No Nolan.
The dilemma of "people" and "picture" all in the same moment!
